Wellness Week 2017
Wellness and work-life balance are hot topics in the veterinary profession. To address this issue and spark conversation, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine will be hosting the 2nd annual Wellness Week, from February 13th – 17th. Here are 8 great events open to students, faculty and staff.
The SAVMA executive board and some of your amazing professors will be serving up complimentary pancakes. Come enjoy a hearty breakfast and start the week off right.
2) Wellness Panel Dinner: Monday, February 13th, 6 pm – 8 pm @ the AVA
Come hear some of your favorite faculty, clinicians, interns, residents, and peers answer questions that so many veterinary students are desperate to ask! The panels will discuss clinics, balancing a successful personal and professional life, personal struggles, veterinary school, and many other topics. Dinner is free!
3) Mental Health Awareness Lunch Talk Tuesday, February 14th, 12 pm – 1 pm @ the AVA
Our amazing school counselors will host a discussion about recognizing the signs of anxiety and depression and how to de-stigmatize asking for help.
4) Dinner Talk: Compassion Fatigue Specialist: Wednesday, February 15th, 6 pm – 8 pm, @ the AVA
Compassion fatigue specialist, Julie Squires, will be hosting a dinner talk to discuss this topic and provide powerful, easy-to-implement daily practices that aim to provide sustained energy and passion for veterinary professionals. She has over twenty years of experience developing and executing trainings, workshops and one-on-one coaching with companies such as Nestle Purina, Bayer Animal Health and IDEXX Laboratories.
5) Massage Chairs: Thursday, February 16th, 12 pm – 1 pm, @ outside the AVA
During the lunch hour there will be massage chairs set up outside AVA’s lecture hall. Students and faculty/staff will get to enjoy a brief complimentary massage. Courtesy of: Bancroft School of Massage.
Round out Wellness Week with our free wine and cheese social. Mingle with fellow students, faculty and our 2 counselors. Spark a conversation by discussing one thing you took away from the week.
7) Wellness Breaks: Everyday!
Use your 10 minute breaks between classes wisely and do something fun. Study break activities including adult coloring, and games such as can jam, corn hole and hop scotch will be available.
